Bank of Thailand Museum is located at Bang Khun Phrom Palace with over 3o rais or
48,000 square meters at Chao Phraya riverside. It is located in the same area of the Bank of Thailand,
Samsen road, Phra Nakorn district. This palace is the most stunning architecture among the same architectural art buildings.
King Chulalongkorn or King Rama V commanded to build this palace from the Privy Purse in order to be the residence for Prince Paribata Sukhumbhand, Prince of Nakorn Sawan, the 33rd prince of his royal highness and Queen Sukhummarnsri. Later in 1932, Bang Khun Phrom Palace was used as the official place until 1945, the palace became the office of Bank of Thailand. Later in 1982,
it was renovated into Bank of Thailand museum. There are many exhibitions presented as follow:
Thai Currency Room: this room exhibits the medium used in exchange since prehistoric time, the currency in Suvarnnabhumi and the evolution of Thai currency, ancient Thai coins and ancient Thai round coins shaped like a grub, into coin at present. The next room presents about Thai banknotes,
the evolution of Thai banknote in Thai currency from “Mai” Thai banknote, Thai paper money,
“Ut” Thai banknote paper, paper bill of exchange or “Luang” Thai banknote paper into the banknote
we used in present.
Foreign Banknotes Room, Learning Room and History and Working Process of Bank of Thailand Room: Here, visitors will have a chance to greet director of Bank of Thailand who will welcome and explain the job and responsibility of Bank of Thailand via magic-vision presentation. Visitors will also learn the history and working process of Bank of Thailand since 1942 until nowadays.
Hall of Fame: This hall presents the history and souvenir items from every director of Bank of Thailand.
Chumbhotbongs Paribatra Room: In the past, the pink room was the throne hall for
Prince Paribata Sukhumbhand, Prince of Nakorn Sawan’s guests including the occasions of making merit, holding ceremonies and showing movies on Saturday nights. The blue room is where the photographs of King Ananda Mahidol or King Rama VIII are located.
Paribatra Room: This room exhibits the biography of Prince Paribata Sukhumbhand,
Prince of Nakorn Sawan while Wiwatchaiyanusorn room is the former office of the director since the first one who was Prince Wiwatchaiyanusorn, brother of King’s grandson, Prasongsom until the 10th director, Mister Nukul Prachaubmao.
Small Meeting Room or Dr. Puay’s Room: This is where the directors consider country’s important financial policy. Moreover, the half-size bronze statue of Dr. Puay Ungpakorn’s half-size,
the 7th former director of Bank of Thailand who had worked over 12 years, is also here.
